Govardhan Puja is the part of 5 day long festivities of Diwali and it is is celebrated a day after Diwali.
Every year Krishna Janamastami is celebrated as a way to remember the story of Gokul which had been saved from rains at that time. In fact, it is believed that the God of Rain, Lord Indra was angered by their decision to worship a hill (Annakut hill or Govardhan Parbat) instead of him and caused uncontrollable rains during Govardhan Puja to punish them. This is when Lord Krishna lifted Govardhan Hill on his pinky finger in order to protect people from drowning.
