According to the legend, Lord Krishna advised the natives of Gokul to worship the Govardhan Hill instead of Lord Indra. The natives of Gokul got convinced by this and decided to worship Govardhan hill. This angered Lord Indra and he caused heavy rains in Gokul. Then Lord Krishna saved everyone by lifting Govardhan Parbat on his little finger and people took shelter under the hill.

The five days of Diwali starts with Dhanteras on Day 1, Choti Diwali on Day 2, Diwali on Day 3, Govardhan Puja on Day 4 and Bhai Dooj on Day 5.
